Short Introduction

During this course, we were tasked with creating a stadium capable of house 5-6000 people, and to be located on a designated spot of land near the SDU campus. This left requirements to capacity and size, but left anything else to be freely interpreted.

As such we ourselves chose what we desired to work around. In our case we decided to go with: Sustainability, Circularity and Modularity. We chose these as we believe these to be the golden trinity of what building design has to become in order to survive into the further depths of the 21st century.

As we began working with these, we quickly acquired more focus point tied to them, to name a few: Material choice, lighting and comfort. The final results can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Introduction

A philosophical take, can also be found on page 3 of the booklet.

Continuity, an expression covering the massive extent of our ever changing nature. Describing anything from the eternal, continuous flow of our rivers, to the vast space of emptiness that are our deserts. It is as such an expression that covers the entirety of nature, of our everyday lives, of how things are created and of how things die. This is the essence of continuity, realizing everything has its purpose, and by applying this knowledge, using it to optimize our surroundings, incorporate nature into our lives, our homes, our buildings.

Our project is a celebration of continuity. Upon closer inspection you will initially be met by the calming expression of wooden pillars. Their massive size emphasizing their status and importance in the design, as well as their capabilities. For when you look up, a wide spreading, and at first intricate system of wooden beams span for as long as one can perceive, only to allow for one to observe, at the far distance, those same wooden beams enclosing more of those majestic wooden pillars you previously encountered. This creates the envelope of the system, a closed expression, from earth, to earth, continuity.

Underneath these seemingly endless treetops you will find the stadium bowl, the core of the structure, the star of the show. You will find it, perfectly centered and in complete focus, with nothing obstructing the view. The composition of the structure closely resembles that of the tree tops above, allowing onlookers to draw in the complete and uninterrupted perception of absolute significance, a magnificent display of strength, a perfect composition of complexity closely resembling that of natural simplicity.

Now, again looking upon the artwork from what seems outside the spread of the tree tops. You notice, nothing. The incorporation of the structures technical ability, and the natural beauty seemingly just goes.. away? There simply is nothing standing out, no encroaching details, no uninvited material. Just the beauty of nature, running across the horizon, reaching into the distance, covering the massive extent of our ever changing nature.
